English remains a very aspirational language especially amongst the under-privileged and lower income families – who see this as a ticket out of poverty and to better paying jobs. The fact is that most rural govt schools do not have well-trained teachers, leave alone trained English language teachers. Most of the schools we work with are sub-scale schools with 1-2 teachers in the entire school, teaching all subjects, all grades.
Elevate is the flagship program of the foundation that provides a comprehensive learning in English literacy for primary school children studying in rural government schools.
Administered by professionally trained community teachers, the multi-skill English language course in accordance to Common European Framework of Reference [CEFR] standards seeks to improve language production, reception, interaction, and linguistic capabilities of children.
Since 2010, the program includes a daily in-school teaching program and EdTech based learning interventions via gamified & digitized content.
The program has five proficiency levels – Seekers, Finders, Discoverers, Enquirers, and Explorers; where each level corresponds to a CEFR Level: Pre-A1, A1, A2, A2 (KEY) and B. Recognizing the variation in retention and learning levels of children, the program conducts an assessment for each child and groups them into one of these four levels.
