Meet Rasna, a lively and optimistic young woman who joined One Billion Literates Foundation’s (OBLF) Spark Program, a livelihood initiative designed to train participants in communicative English and job readiness for retail industry. Despite joining the program two weeks late, Rasna’s vibrant personality and strong determination quickly made her a standout in her cohort.
Rasna, a 1st PUC (11th standard) graduate, has always dreamed of working in a job where she could interact with people. Her multilingual and friendly demeanour made her an ideal candidate for roles in customer service and retail. During the program, she embraced the training and learning skills like effective communication, problem-solving, and workplace etiquette, which helped her grow both personally and professionally.
After completing the Spark Program, Rasna secured a role as a Customer Associate at a popular retail store. Her new job allows her to interact with diverse customers, assist them in finding products, and create a positive shopping experience—all while building her confidence and gaining financial independence.
Rasna comes from a traditional community where women are often expected to focus on family life after marriage. Yet, her supportive family and her determination to challenge these societal expectations have been pivotal in her journey. With encouragement from her parents and healthy competition from her cousin Rashmi, who also joined the Spark Program, Rasna has proven that ambition and resilience can overcome barriers.
Rasna’s story is one of hope, determination, and transformation. Through OBLF’s Spark Program, she has not only gained skills for the workplace but has also built the confidence to carve her path toward independence.
